EVERYONE'S TALKING ABOUT...THE GIRLS
'Friends since they were 16, artists Andrea Blood and Zoe Sinclair produce surreal self-portraits and performance art that have seen them compared to Cindy Sherman and Gilbert & George. They gained the nickname 'The Girls' when studying photography at Central Saint Martins and sharing a Brixton flat. And, as we see in this charming scene, titled 'Special', they’re practically joined at the hip. The Girls have photographed each other battling the elements in Dungeness, sprawled in a fairy tale wood full of gingerbread and rabbits, and as mermaids eating fish and chips in the bath. The results – magical, nostalgic and amusing – have graced the walls of the National Portrait Gallery and the Los Angeles Center for Digital Art.
Currently, they’re preparing for a showcase at Beverley Knowles Fine Art in London’s Notting Hill later this year, but their ambitions go further: "We’d like to publish a book and exhibit internationally", says Zoe. Before they go global, catch them on March 1st performing their installation ‘The Garden Party’ during Afternoon Tease! At London burlesque club Volupte. If you’ve never seen a naked lady lying on a table, covered in modestly arranged cakes while a vicar of indeterminate gender sips tea, now’s your chance.'
